Our Mission
Moravian Wine Guide was created with a simple yet passionate purpose: to share the remarkable wine culture of South Moravia with the world. While French, Italian, and Spanish wines dominate global conversations, we believe that Czech wines deserve recognition for their exceptional quality and unique character.
Our goal is to provide comprehensive, honest, and practical information that helps wine enthusiasts, curious travelers, and gastronomy lovers plan meaningful visits to this beautiful region. We strive to bridge the gap between local winemakers and international visitors, promoting sustainable and responsible wine tourism.
What We Offer
Our website serves as a comprehensive resource for anyone interested in Moravian wines:
- Winery Guides - Detailed profiles of wineries across all four sub-regions, from historic estates to innovative small producers
- Wine Education - Information about grape varieties, winemaking traditions, and tasting techniques specific to Moravia
- Travel Planning - Practical tips for visiting the region, including transportation, accommodation, and seasonal events
- Cultural Context - Stories about the people, traditions, and history that make Moravian wine culture unique
Our Approach
We believe in authenticity and independence. Our recommendations are based on personal visits, careful research, and conversations with local winemakers. We do not accept payment for favorable reviews, and we clearly distinguish between editorial content and any sponsored material.
Wine tourism should be an enriching experience that benefits both visitors and local communities. We encourage respectful engagement with winemakers, support for sustainable practices, and appreciation for the hard work that goes into every bottle.
Our Values
- Authenticity in all recommendations and reviews
- Respect for local traditions and winemakers
- Promotion of sustainable wine tourism
- Accessibility of information for all levels of wine knowledge
- Celebration of the unique character of Moravian wines
The Region We Love
South Moravia is not just a wine region; it is a living landscape where viticulture has shaped culture, architecture, and daily life for centuries. The wine cellars of Petrov, the castle of Mikulov overlooking endless vineyards, the vibrant harvest festivals in small villages - these are experiences that stay with visitors long after they return home.
The region produces approximately 18 million liters of wine annually, with white varieties accounting for about 65% of production. Indigenous grapes like Palava (a local crossing of Muller-Thurgau and Traminer) and traditional varieties like Welschriesling and Gruner Veltliner thrive in the continental climate moderated by the nearby Dyje river.
